Andorra for Shopping Addicts
Hit the shops in Andorra! Browsing shops in Andorra is one of our country’s great activities, both for Andorrans and visiting tourists alike. The variety of shops and shopping centres allows any customer find what they are looking for, be it fashion, accessories, perfumeries, electronics, sports, opticians and so much more. We can include, on demand: route proposals, accomodations, local transports, activities, material rental, entrances to museums and attractions and guiding service in several languages.
Drawing in from its historical lack of VAT Andorra has always been a shopping paradise. Designer shops were all available, even when they were still not present in the Spanish market, making it a great destination for Christmas shopping. Large hypermarkets lined the road out of the country and into Spain which were always busy with visitors doing their grocery shopping.
But things have changed and now the city center of Escaldes, along Avinguda Carlemany, is mostly pedestrian, with shops and restaurants at either side. In Andorra La Vella, stop by the legendary Pyrenees department store where you can find all the major brands and continue along Avinguda Meritxell, which is the main artery which eventually merges into Carlemany after crossing the River Valira. You will love the stroll. However, don’t come expecting Prada, Gucci or Hermes, Andorra is about high street shopping at a slightly reduced price, not a haven for fashionistas. But the offer is huge.
You will find electronics, jewelry, watches, cosmetics, clothing, tobacco, alcohol, but also terraces for a nice coffee pause and restaurants from pizzerias to the famous gastronomic restaurant at the Diamant Centre, where Master Chef Nandu Jubany and his team present you their delicious creations.
Apart from groceries and apparel, Andorra used to produce tobacco and this was one of the items visitors would stock up on. Tobacco fields can still be seen and there is a tobacco museum you can visit too, more on that later.
Great offers to be found for: Hunters, Fishers, Adventurers, Motor Lovers, Skiers, Mountaineers…..etc.
- Limited number of exported products: However, although Andorra adopted the euro as its currency in 2014, it should be noted that we are not a member of the European Union. Therefore, the number of products you can take across the border on your trip home is limited.
- Exported products: The value of the products purchased in Andorra is not accumulative and cannot be split among travellers. Distinctions are not made between agricultural and industrial products. Therefore, our advice is to check that in advance to avoid any issues.
- Low taxation policy: The Principality has a low taxation policy reflected by its prices: products on sale in our country are significantly cheaper than in neighbouring France and Spain.
- Opening hours: Another thing that makes shopping in our country more attractive is the long opening hours and business-day calendar. Generally, shops in Andorra are open until 8:00 pm from Sunday to Thursday, whereas on Friday and Saturday, this is extended to 9:00 pm. During holiday periods (Easter Week, Carnival, etc.), some shops, stores and shopping centres stay open until 10:00 p.m.
